I HURT MY ARM AND MADE A SONG not about my hurt arm, just a sketch of a song
Derweze, also known as the door to hell, is a 70 meter wide hole in the middle of the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan. The hole was formed in 1971 when a team of soviet geologists had their drilling rig collapse when they hit a cavern filled with natural gas. In an attempt to avoid poisonous discharge, they decided to burn it off, thinking that the gas would be depleted in only a few days. Derweze is still burning today
taking on a project, probably against my better judgement. this is specific and achievable though, and i only took it on because it’s something very different from the kind of stuff i normally do. sketch attached
His stuff always manages to help me relax. His music is free at his webpage.
When youth surges back,
and takes up all the space
where yesterdays go,
and you don’t know my face
All I want, all I need is
all i want is for you to say my name
There’s time for us now,
There’s time for us…

virgil-caine asked: It's a shame you have so much trouble distributing your music, considering it's really spectacular. Have you ever thought about going through the proper channels and trying to get signed to Warp? That seems like the perfect label for your music.
Thanks — I’ve looked at Warp, but they don’t accept unsolicited demos (exactly my point about the introverted and cliquey nature of the conventional music business) and besides, I think Warp probably don’t need another droney electronica guy on their books.
Anonymous asked: You "refuse to put up with the bourgeois shitheads" but post your stuff on SA? o_O
I take your point, but SA is big enough to be a pretty wide sample of people. It’s the closest I could get to reaching a ‘general’ audience on the Internet, even though I know it’s a very self-selecting demographic. I guess bourgeois may not be the right term for the kinds of people I’m thinking of; I need a more accurate term of abuse. “Hipster” is not it either.
Anonymous asked: Your work is good, professional even. I've heard much worse ambient music released on professional record labels. Why don't you sign to a label? There are also some online communities, like WATMM, where musicians post their stuff. You could post stuff there and I'm sure people would probably enjoy it, even if there are some sniffy people there. In short, why don't you network more to get your music out there???
That’s very nice of you to say so, and I’m glad you think that. But the thing is that I don’t really see much of a need to tie myself down to a record contract (the offers I’ve had have certainly not been appealling). There’s not much in it for me as far as I can see. The publicity machine of a conventional label might be handy but do I really want to attract people with stupid ads and platitudes about my music, when I could rely on people to just recommend it to people they know will enjoy it? I know I’m sick of seeing ads and hype for shitty acts and I never believe them. I only trust my friends.
Anyway. As for online music communities, nobody really cares if you’re not doing a dumb remix of a pokemon song or a video game or some shit like that. And any more ‘serious’ music communities are full of terrible hobbyists who only talk about Gear and buying Gear and studio releases and how to “make it” and how to “get signed” or “get a break” or whatever, and actually making music is the last thing on their agenda. Also they’re full of cunts. The same goes for almost every ‘scene’ in real life; I refuse to put up with the bourgeois shitheads inhabiting music scenes in real life. I’m not out to impress people or whatever.
Basically I’m too hermitic and I’m far too tired to put up with the horrible egos and dickfaces involved in making and sharing music. I think almost everything to do with the conventional model of producing and distributing music is horribly poisonous and I hate it. If not associating with it means that I reach far fewer people but have fewer headaches, that’s fine by me.
